The United States continues to condition the restoration of economic cooperation with Russia on progress in the Ukrainian settlement, but the Russian Federation does not consider this a prerequisite. This was announced by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov at a briefing on April 14.

According to him, the work of the specialized group on cooperation between the two countries continues, but the American side continues to link trade and economic issues with the situation in Ukraine.

"We believe that it is absolutely not necessary to wait for a settlement in Ukraine," he said.

He noted that it is in the interests of both countries to implement numerous mutually beneficial projects that are already on the agenda.

Peskov announced on April 10 that Kirill Dmitriev, the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, had held talks in the United States with the administration of the American leader Donald Trump.

On April 9, Reuters reported on Dmitriev's visit to the United States. It was noted that the visit took place in connection with the approaching expiration date of the United States sanctions against Russian oil. The agency's interlocutors noted that the issue of extending or canceling these measures may also be discussed during meetings in Washington.
