Xi Jinping called the Spanish Prime Minister the main mediator in the dialogue with the EU

President of the People's Republic of China (PRC) Xi Jinping recognized Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez as a key mediator in relations with the European Union (EU), Politico newspaper wrote on April 14.

"China and the EU must fulfill their international obligations, jointly protect the trend of economic globalization and a fair international trading environment, and jointly resist unilateral and intimidating actions," the chairman stressed.

He noted that in the face of complex global upheavals, Spain and the Republic of China have been working to establish close ties that "contribute to the stability" of his country's broader relations with the EU. He praised Sanchez's policies for "moral honesty," adding that Madrid and Beijing are "on the right side of history."

The Chinese president stressed that the countries are determined to cooperate in order to "prevent the world from returning to the law of the jungle."

"The difficult global situation requires us to focus on expanding dialogue, cooperation and strengthening relations with other countries and regional blocs," Sanchez said, in a veiled reference to US President Donald Trump's global trade war, which he is waging, including with Beijing.

Xi Jinping said on the same day that the modern world was "mired in chaos," highlighting growing instability and increasing global contradictions. Trump said on April 11 that China would have "big problems" if it decided to supply weapons to Iran.
