- The analyst announced the strengthening of Iran's negotiating positions after the start of the US operation.
Iran strengthened its position at the negotiating table after the American "maximum plan" did not work, and the military operation did not bring significant results. This opinion was expressed on April 14 by Hamid Reza Gholamzadeh, director of the Iranian analytical center DiploHouse.
"Iran claims to have survived, and this makes it stronger at the negotiating table," the expert said in an interview with Al Jazeera.
According to Golamadze, the leadership of the Islamic Republic no longer sees good reasons to make concessions, since the military threat that the United States has used as a lever of pressure over the past two decades has not led to devastating consequences for the country.
The expert also noted that Americans "are not used to admitting defeat." Thus, the positions of the two sides "are still far from each other," despite statements about their readiness to discuss the terms of a peace agreement.
At the same time, the day before, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance said that Washington had managed to make "significant progress" in negotiations with Iran. He noted that the parties failed to conclude a deal because "the Iranian negotiators could not come to a final agreement among themselves, they had to return to Tehran."
In addition, Vance stated that he had achieved his goals as part of the military operation against Iran and was ready to move on to ending the conflict. According to him, the current situation allows for a gradual curtailment of hostilities.
US President Donald Trump said on April 9 that the United States and Iran would soon be able to reach an agreement. The American leader stressed that he is optimistic and considers the signing of a peace document an achievable goal.
