Sales of new Chery cars decreased eight-fold in Russia
In the first quarter of 2026, sales of new Chery cars in Russia decreased by almost eight times. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, shared such data on his Telegram channel on April 14.
Thus, according to the results of the first three months of this year, 3,265 new Chery cars were sold in Russia (-87.3%). During the same period last year, dealers sold almost 25.8 thousand cars of this Chinese brand.
However, as Tselikov noted, in the first quarter, Chery dealers sold 27.9 thousand cars of the domestic brand Tenet, which are based on Chery models.
Total sales of new Chery and Tenet vehicles in the first quarter amounted to 31.1 thousand units, an increase of 21%. For comparison, the entire car market increased by only 7.3%.
The production of Tenet cars at the Kaluga plant is organized in a full cycle. The current model range includes the T4, T7 and T8 crossovers. According to the results of the first quarter of this year, the volume of shipments of Russian-made cars to the dealer network amounted to 29.5 thousand units, the company's press service reported on April 2. The Tenet T7 crossover remains the most in-demand model, accounting for more than 50% of sales in three months.
The Tenet T7 became the best-selling SUV segment car in Russia from the sixth to the eighth week of this year, and was also the leader in the 14th week.
