The psychologist named the reasons for choosing an "unsocial" job.
The desire to work with a minimum level of communication may be related not to the type of personality, but to the peculiarities of experiencing intimacy and security in contact with other people. Maria Todorova, a family and child psychologist, told Izvestia about this on April 14.
"If intimacy is experienced as overwhelming or unsafe, a person naturally seeks environments where there are fewer demands for emotional engagement. Technical or structured activities in this sense give a sense of control, predictability and reduce the level of internal stress," the specialist explained.
According to her, such a choice cannot be unequivocally explained by introversion or personal preferences. We are talking about deep mechanisms related to the theory of attachment and the experience of interacting with others.
The expert also stressed that the technical professions themselves cannot be considered isolated or "unsocial." Within one sphere, there may be positions with minimal interaction, as well as roles that require active communication, teamwork, and a high degree of responsibility for others.
Todorova noted that the key factor is not the choice of profession, but the correspondence between a person's personal characteristics and specific working conditions. This is what determines the level of comfort, engagement and effectiveness in professional activities.
On February 25, it was reported that the welding profession became the highest-paid in Russia at the beginning of 2026. The second place in the list was taken by electricians, their salary is 160 thousand rubles, followed by machinists and installers with a salary of almost 147 thousand rubles.
