The combination of pilaf and salads with mayonnaise is especially dangerous for people with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, metabolic disorders and cardiovascular problems. Evgeniya Belousova, a gastroenterologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), Candidate of Medical Sciences, told Izvestia about this on April 14.
Special care should be taken for people with cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and lipid metabolism disorders. This combination of saturated fats can worsen the course of these conditions.
"Pilaf itself is a fairly high—calorie and fatty dish: in classic recipes, about 8-20 grams of fat can be per 100 g, and a standard serving easily exceeds 400-500 kcal. Mayonnaise salads add another layer of fat, salt and sugar," the specialist explained.
According to her, this combination creates an increased load on the gastrointestinal tract. Fatty foods take longer to digest, which can cause heaviness, heartburn, and drowsiness even in healthy people. In the presence of gastritis, reflux, peptic ulcer, chronic pancreatitis or diseases of the biliary tract, such a diet can provoke an exacerbation.
The expert noted that an additional risk factor is the high calorie intake of food. The combination of pilaf and mayonnaise salads can give up to 700-900 kcal at one time, while saturation remains insufficient. This increases the likelihood of overeating and, if repeated regularly, can lead to weight gain and metabolic disorders.
Belousova stressed that there is no strict ban on such dishes, but it is better to avoid their combination in the daily diet. As a safer alternative, she recommended combining pilaf with light vegetable salads without mayonnaise and controlling the total calorie intake.
Nutritionist Elena Solomatina reported on April 13 that lunch, which lasts only 20 minutes, can be dangerous to health, since the body is a complex and delicate mechanism that can be easily disabled, and not just a machine that can be quickly refueled and moved on. According to her, haste is the enemy of digestion.
