A steady positive trend in the reproduction and conservation of forests has been maintained in Russia over the past five years. This was announced on April 14 by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev at the Board of the Federal Forestry Agency in Moscow.

More than 20% of the world's forests are located in Russia, a unique resource that is being systematically developed. The focus is on the fight against forest fires, issues of protection, reproduction and rational use of forest resources, as well as digitalization of forestry.

"One of the key components of the industry is the reproduction and conservation of forests. There has been a steady positive trend in this area over the past five years. As a result, reforestation has exceeded the area of felled and dead trees by one and a half times. I would like to note that, on behalf of the president, special attention is being paid to the creation of "green belts" around large cities and industrial centers. In addition, as part of the national Environmental Well-being project, the government is financing the creation and modernization of forest nurseries. Such events have been resumed for the first time in more than 20 years and will affect 240 facilities. For its part, the Government is significantly increasing funding for fire prevention measures. The amount of funds has quadrupled in six years. And this year it has almost reached 27 billion rubles, which is 7 billion more than the limit of the 25th year. The funds are provided for the creation of 11 new aviation divisions and the strengthening of 40 existing ones, as well as for the purchase of equipment and drones. The Federal Forestry Agency and the regions need to implement all these measures in a timely manner," Patrushev said.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, in 2025, forestry provided a record revenue to the budget system - about 90 billion rubles. This was primarily due to an increase in the number of leased plots. At the same time, the adoption of a law on forest management at the expense of tenants and regional funds should have a positive effect on increasing the pace of inventory.

Evgeny Masharov, a member of the commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, recalled on April 8 that fines of up to 3 million rubles, as well as criminal liability, are provided for illegal felling of trees in Russia. It was specified that in case of major damage, the fine can reach 1.5 million rubles, in case of significant damage — up to 500 thousand rubles. The damage is considered significant if the amount exceeds 5 thousand rubles, large — from 50 thousand rubles, especially large — from 150 thousand rubles.
