A foreigner in the Amur region was fined for a period for storing 20 kg of gold
The Amur Regional Court decided to replace the fine with imprisonment for a Chinese citizen who was found guilty of illegal possession of precious metals. He was held in a penal colony for three years and will pay a fine of 0.5 million rubles.
The court of first instance fined the Chinese 450 thousand rubles. This is below the minimum penalty under the article, the PriamurMedia news agency notes. The prosecutor's office appealed the lenient sentence.
In October 2025, the accused received a bag containing 24 gold bars from an unknown person and hid it in the ventilation in the bathroom of an apartment in Blagoveshchensk. He was detained by operatives while checking the cache. About 21.5 kg of gold and silver were seized. The cost of the find was more than 207 million rubles.
The judicial Board of the Amur Regional Court concluded that the mitigating circumstances did not provide grounds for excluding the minimum penalty.
Earlier it was reported that in the Amur region in 2025, 73 million rubles were recovered from unscrupulous subsoil users for causing damage. A record payment of 28 million rubles was made from an enterprise that was engaged in the extraction of placer gold in the Selimdzhinsky district. This is more than a third of all collected debts.
