The hairdresser talked about the effect of coloring on age-related changes
Choosing a shade and styling can both visually refresh your appearance and, conversely, emphasize age-related changes. Lyubov Bey, a hairdresser-colorist, expert on gray hair, and founder of the coloristics school, told Izvestia about this on April 15.
"This is not prejudice, but the law of optics. Due to the loss of elasticity and changes in subcutaneous fat, light is reflected differently from the face. That is why the colors and styling that we choose in adulthood require more fine—tuning," she said.
According to the expert, with age, the skin becomes drier, loses its density and natural radiance, and the tone of the face becomes less even. In such conditions, too cold or saturated shades can accentuate wrinkles, dullness and signs of fatigue.
The expert added that hair also changes: it becomes more porous, loses shine and density. Monotonous dark coloring can visually make the image heavier, and excessively bright colors can emphasize the flaws in the hair structure.
The colorist noted that warm shades look more advantageous in adulthood — golden blonde, honey and soft chestnut tones. They create the effect of "highlighting" the face and make it visually fresher. In addition, preference should be given to multidimensional coloring with smooth transitions and highlights.
"Multidimensional coloring, where the roots are slightly darker and there are light burnt strands along the length, creates a natural volume. The brain reads this as a sign of health and thick hair, which is subconsciously associated with youth," she added.
At the same time, it is better to abandon cold dark shades such as blue-black or graphite, as well as aggressive red and purple tones, as they enhance contrast and emphasize skin irregularities. The expert also stressed that volume plays an important role in styling. Light waves, texture and moving strands create a more youthful and dynamic look, while smooth and heavily weighted hairstyles can visually "weigh down" the face.
Among the successful options, she highlighted haircuts with volume at the roots, bob up to the chin, cascade and careless styling. At the same time, smoothly combed back hair and tight buns can make the appearance more severe and emphasize age-related changes. According to her, in adulthood, a conscious approach to the image is especially important.
"The right color and styling is not about looking younger, but about looking fresher and lighter in the here and now. And, as practice shows, sometimes it's enough just to change the cold tone to a warm one and slightly loosen the bun so that the mirror shows you a completely different, more interesting version of yourself," concluded Bey.
Stylist, accessories designer, and founder of the by SKOROKHODOVA brand, Anna Skorokhodova, said on March 26 that structured silhouettes with an emphasis on the waist are returning to fashion in Russia. According to the expert, the transition to an accentuated waistline was a reaction to the long-term dominance of the oversized free style. The new trend reflects the desire for a balanced appearance that combines aesthetics and convenience without the extremes of previous years.
