On April 26, viewers of REN TV will see the premiere of the action-packed detective series "Rooks", filmed by order of the TV channel. The uniqueness of the project lies in the fact that the creators deliberately abandoned excessive special effects in order to show that era as truthfully as possible. Kristina Morozova, a correspondent for Izvestia, told about this on April 14.

"Computer graphics in the series will be used to a minimum. Most of the special effects that viewers will see on the screen are real explosions, fire, and shooting," the correspondent said.

Machine—gun fire, ear-ringing gunfire-everything that takes your breath away. There are complex stunts on the screen, sometimes risking their lives, and many of them are performed not by stuntmen, but by the actors themselves. Alexey Makarov plays one of the main roles — the former head of the Grachi children's concentration camp, hiding from persecution under fire and explosions.

"We have a lot of shooting, explosions, chases and showdowns, quite bloody. As an artist, Alexey Makarov, I welcome all this, because any movie is primarily a show, and the viewer's eye should light up when he looks at all this," he said.

In order for the audience to see the powerful volleys, long before the filming, the pyrotechnics team did a tremendous job. For several hours, special charges were laid out around the perimeter of the estate. This made it possible to shoot the scene from the first take.

Police captain Alexei Ratnikov investigates a series of mysterious murders in post-war Leningrad. The handwriting is not thuggish — it looks like a cold calculation. His tracks lead him to Pavel Vedernikov, a fish farm technologist, who is not really who he claims to be.

The investigation repeatedly finds itself at a dead end. A real espionage game with intrigue and deception is unfolding on the screen. The deeper Ratnikov digs, the scarier the truth becomes. Horrific stories about Nazi crimes are being revealed. The series is a historical labyrinth, where even in the most terrible moments there is a place for humanity.

"My character is negative. But in theory, of course, he works for the Germans. But, of course, like any person, he has a story. He has a woman he loves working here, whom he somehow protects. The two of them help the children escape, that is, they hide the children," said theater and film actor Roman Gribov.

In one series, the producers have assembled a powerful cast: more than 150 characters. Who exactly would play the main criminal was an intrigue. And the director himself created it. Initially, Artyom Tkachenko was tried for the role of a concentration camp warden, but right before filming it was decided that Alexey Makarov would play the cold-blooded killer with blue eyes.

"I was a little upset at first, because villains are always more interesting to play, because you have a task to make the audience get into this character. For me, the task was to make sure that the hero against the background of a well—written villain did not fade into the background and did not get lost," said theater and film actor Artem Tkachenko.

For the filming of the series, created by order of the REN TV channel and the Wink platform, more than 250 historical locations were involved: St. Petersburg, Vyborg, Novaya Ladoga, the waters of Lake Ladoga.

"For me personally, this is a confrontation between two very difficult people, a battle of the elements — black and white, which is present in any person," said Olga Pogodina, general producer of the series "Grachi".

On April 11, the filmmakers revealed that they would guide viewers through a confusing series of murders, which hides the exact calculation of not just a criminal, but an enemy lurking after the war. The militia captain will have to find out what his real motives are.
