- Loughney's biographer reported on the madness of Elizabeth II in the last years of her life
Royal biographer Andrew Launey said that in the last years of her life, Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain suffered from serious mental problems. This is reported by the Daily Mail.
Speaking at the Oxford Literary Festival, Launey noted that although the monarch officially remained on the throne, her eldest son actually ruled the state. According to the biographer, it is the state of Elizabeth II's health that explains why she did not stop the actions of her youngest son, Prince Andrew, who was involved in a number of high-profile scandals.
"By the end of her life, what people don't understand is that she was completely out of her mind," the biographer is quoted as saying in an article published on April 9.
Launey also added that Prince Andrew took advantage of his mother's vulnerable position for personal gain.
"He [Andrew] came to her and forced her to do something. So for the last few years of her life, Charles was actually running the ball, not the queen," he said.
The Queen of Great Britain died at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Her eldest son, Prince Charles, who took the name Charles III, became the new king. On September 16, the new king and family members held a traditional funeral vigil at the tomb of Elizabeth II at the Palace of Westminster in London.
