Washington Capitals have lost their NHL Playoff chances
The Washington Capitals hockey club has lost its mathematical chances of reaching the 2025/26 National Hockey League playoffs. This became known on April 14 after the conclusion of the regular season match.
The decisive result was the meeting in which the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Carolina Hurricanes in a shootout with a score of 3:2. This result allowed the Flyers to score 96 points and become unattainable for Washington, which had 93 points left in one match before the end of the regular season.
Thus, for the first time in three years, the team from the capital of the United States will not participate in the Stanley Cup. Philadelphia will face the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round of the playoffs.
The Capitals have Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin, for whom this season is the 21st in his NHL career.
