Cremation is becoming a common form of burial among people of different faiths, while Orthodox rituals are observed directly in crematoriums. This was announced on April 14 by Vladimir Voroshukha, director of the Nizhny Novgorod crematorium.

According to him, a significant part of the ceremonies is accompanied by religious rituals.

"We have an average of 7-8 processions per day, and about six of them are attended by a priest," Voroshukha said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He stressed that the decision on cremation depends not only on religious views, but also on practical factors.

"It depends on a lot, even on the time of year ... in winter it is easier to carry out cremation, and to postpone the burial of the urn until spring," he explained.

According to the position of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), approved by the 2015 Council of Bishops, cremation is allowed, and the deceased retain the right to a funeral service and memorial service.
