In winter, 45 thousand puffins washed up on the Atlantic coast of France.
More than 45,000 puffins were washed up on the Atlantic coast of France in three months. This was announced on April 14 by the Ici radio station.
"From December 19, 2025 to March 17, 45,014 puffins were found dead or alive. These birds, with their bright beaks and black-and—white plumage, make up about 96% of the birds collected this winter on the Atlantic coast," the publication notes.
It is known that birds have been affected by winter storms. The article notes that this is not the first case of a mass release: a similar thing happened in 2014, when about 50 thousand puffins died.
On April 9, the oldest pigeon in the world died in the United States. A bird named Sugar lived to 43 years old, setting a record for longevity. The previous world record for life expectancy among pigeons was less by almost 15 years.
