Prescribing antidepressants to children is possible if the symptoms of the disorder are expressed in such a way that psychotherapy does not work on its own. This was announced on April 13 by Timur Mutaliev, a psychiatrist and psychotherapist at Atlas clinics.

"Children do have anxiety and depressive disorders, and in some cases they are so pronounced that psychotherapy simply does not work without medical support," the doctor said in an interview with <url>.

Mutaliev also added that drugs are not prescribed at the first opportunity. If the problem is not critical, the first and main method of treatment should be to work with a psychologist or psychotherapist.

"Drugs are not the first line just in case. First, the severity of the condition is always assessed, the context — school, family, workload — and, if possible, psychotherapy is involved," Mutaliev explained.

The doctor pointed out that with proper dose selection and monitoring, the risk of serious side effects is low. At the same time, the lack of treatment is much more dangerous, since the disorder interferes with the normal development, learning and personality formation of the child.

Psychotherapist Alexander Fedorovich explained on April 13 why it is interesting for a person to read scary news. The expert noted that positive news, as a rule, does not attract the attention of the brain, because it does not cause tension and does not require an immediate reaction, unlike disturbing messages. According to him, negative news affects ancient survival mechanisms, forcing the brain to perceive them as a danger signal and focus on them.
