Monkeypox is an orthopoxvirus infection that is classically spread by airborne droplets, like human smallpox. Gennady Onishchenko, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education, said this on Monday, April 13.
"There is no virulence [in this virus], that is, the severity of the course, which can also take a life, yet. He's not very religious, and that's what's saving him for now. He hasn't really settled in, but anything is possible," he said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
According to the expert, this infection is a relative of the smallpox virus, which was officially eliminated in 1980. He recalled that after that, humanity actually lost its collective protection against such infections, according to the website. kp.ru .
At the same time, Onishchenko added that after 40 years, monkey pox began to manifest itself as an independent infection, that is, it actively entered the human population.
Earlier it became known that another patient with confirmed smallpox was admitted to Domodedovo hospital, RT reports. Two patients with smallpox of monkeys are already undergoing treatment. Their condition is satisfactory, NSN reports.
A sanitary and epidemiological investigation has been launched. Specialists identify and examine people who have been in contact with the infected person. They also collect biomaterials and carry out disinfection, IA Regnum reports.
Maxim Zabelin, Deputy Chairman of the government and Minister of Health of the Moscow Region, announced on April 1 that one of the two people hospitalized at Domodedovo Hospital had been diagnosed with monkeypox, the Moscow City News Agency reports. It was clarified that the situation is under the control of the regional Ministry of Health and Rospotrebnadzor in the Moscow region.
