Rosatom noted progress in negotiations with Indonesia on floating nuclear power plant
The project for the construction of a floating nuclear power plant (NPP) is in the most advanced stage of negotiations between Rosatom and representatives from Indonesia. This was announced on April 13 by Alexey Likhachev, CEO of the state corporation.
"Negotiations on floating nuclear power plants are still at the most advanced stage, although in terms of the country's development, the government [Indonesia] has set a figure of 7 GW of nuclear capacity by 2040. <...> We have already put appropriate decisions on the table," Likhachev told Channel One.
In April last year, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov noted that Russia was ready to offer Indonesia large-capacity nuclear power plants and small modular reactors, which would allow the two countries to develop joint projects.
Also on April 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that energy and space are promising areas for cooperation between Russia and Indonesia. According to him, Indonesia's accession to the BRICS opens up new opportunities for cooperation.
