The prosecutor asks the Tverskoy Court of Moscow to impose a 10-year sentence in a high-security penal colony on former Senator Dmitry Saveliev in the attempted murder case. A source told Izvestia about this on April 13.

Saveliev was also asked for two years of restriction of freedom and deprivation of state awards. Earlier, the jury found the ex-senator guilty.

On March 25, the court sentenced Yuri Nefedov, accused in the Saveliev case, to four years in a high-security penal colony. Nefedov admitted his guilt, his case was separated into a separate proceeding and was considered separately.

According to investigators, Nefedov, at Saveliev's request, turned to his second cousin Sergei Dyukov to find a perpetrator for the murder of Sergei Ionov, a former business partner of the ex-senator. In turn, Dyukov asked the former FSIN officer to find killers who could deal with Ionov while he was being transferred to jail.

According to the case file, Nefedov received $100,000 from Saveliev, and the performers were promised $50,000. Despite the agreements, the contractor contacted the FSB immediately after the meeting and continued to act under the control of the security forces.

It is reported that the murder was staged to detain the customer, after which Saveliev received the report of Ionov's death and paid off the would-be killer.

In February last year, Saveliev, who was accused of organizing the murder of his former business partner Sergei Ionov, appealed against the extension of his arrest. The ex-senator was detained on August 2, 2024, as he was leaving a meeting of the Federation Council, and his immunity was lifted. It was noted that in August 2023, due to personal hostility, he instructed his friend to organize the murder of businessman Sergei Ionov.

A criminal case was opened on this fact under Part 3 of Article 33, Part 1 of Article 30, paragraph "h" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Organization of preparations for murder"). Izvestia reported that the senator promised a reward of $100,000 for the murder, but Saveliev pleaded not guilty. Later, the jury convicted Saveliev in the attempted murder case.
