An attempt to harm Iran through the blockade of its ports may have more severe consequences for the global economy than for the Iranian one. This was announced on April 13 by Al Jazeera TV columnist James Bays.

"[The blockade of Iranian ports] is practically a race between damage to the Iranian economy, which has been under sanctions since 1979, but which, despite serious economic problems, is very stable economically, and [damage to] the global economy, which, I think, can suffer much, much faster and much more thoroughly than Iran," Beis wrote.

The observer noted that the decision announced by US President Donald Trump to block ships traveling to and from Iranian ports is aimed at depriving Tehran of income from continuing oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz, despite American sanctions.

However, weeks of military operations by the United States and Israel allowed the Islamic Republic to "earn twice as much as before the war," given the continued export of oil, the prices of which have skyrocketed, as well as the charging of ships for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, writes Al Jazeera.

"In fact, Iran did well during this war," Beis added.

Earlier in the day, Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for the central headquarters of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya military command, noted that the Islamic Republic considers the naval blockade by the United States illegal. He added that after the end of the war, Tehran will resolutely establish a permanent mechanism of control over the Strait of Hormuz.

In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov added that the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by the United States would negatively affect international energy markets. According to him, Moscow is ready to help resolve the conflict.

On April 12, Trump announced that the US Navy was beginning to block all ships that would attempt to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz.
