Starmer ruled out British participation in the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz
The UK has no plans to participate in US President Donald Trump's plan to blockade the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced on April 13 by the country's Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
"We do not support the blockade. <...> In my opinion, it is extremely important to open [the Strait of Hormuz] completely, and this is what we have been focusing all our efforts on over the past few years, and we will continue to do so," the Reuters news agency quoted him as saying.
The Head of Government noted that the United Kingdom has its own ships in the Middle East region, which are designed to detect and destroy mines. According to the Prime minister, the British military potential is focused on ensuring the full opening of the strait.
Trump announced yesterday that the US Navy is beginning to block all ships that attempt to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, the negotiations in Islamabad went well, but the key nuclear issue remained unresolved. Trump said Iran had prevented free passage for ships by using threats about mines.
