- The Security Council pointed to the threat to food security due to the conflict in Iran
The Middle East conflict poses threats to the food security of Russia and other countries. This was announced on April 13 by Alexander Maslennikov, Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council.
"The current situation, on the one hand, poses risks to the food security of the Russian Federation, and on the other hand, it opens up long—term prospects for Russian agricultural producers," he stressed.
The Security Council also noted that the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz for three months could seriously affect the food security of Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt.
At the same time, Europe also found itself in a vulnerable position due to the loss of imports from the Persian Gulf and the inability to increase its own fertilizer production amid rising gas prices. European traders and farmers are forced to look for alternative sources, including North Africa, North America and Russia.
