In the first quarter of 2026, the number of consumer loans issued in Russia increased by 27.1% compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 4.76 million. This was announced on April 13 by the press service of the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI).

At the same time, compared to the first quarter of 2024, the number of consumer loans decreased by 41% — about 8 million were issued then, the TASS bureau cites. In March 2026, banks approved 1.8 million loans, which is 18% more than in February and 43% more than in March 2025 (1.2 million). However, compared to March 2024 (2.92 million), the figure decreased by 39%.

According to statistics, Moscow (107.9 thousand), the Moscow Region (102.6 thousand) and the Krasnodar Territory (almost 77 thousand) are the leaders among the regions in issuing consumer loans. The largest growth compared to February was recorded in Voronezh (+23%), Saratov (+22%) regions and Tatarstan (also +22%).

On April 5, Meri Valishvili, Associate Professor of the Department of State and Municipal Finance at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, listed at least three types of loans that should be rejected. These include loans in foreign currency when earning in rubles, re-crediting, that is, making a new loan to pay for the previous one, and microloans in the absence of regular earnings.
