Sales of new passenger cars decreased by 20% in Russia in a week

According to the results of the 15th week of this year, 24.9 thousand new passenger cars were registered in Russia, which is 20% less than a week earlier. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel on April 13. However, as the expert pointed out, "you shouldn't worry about the downside."

The "statistical record" of the previous 14th week was associated with the closure of dealers in the first quarter. Therefore, the current "step back" can be considered quite logical. The market for new passenger cars is still in the stage of slow but steady recovery," explained Tselikov.

So, compared to the same week last year, sales increased by 28%. It is expected that in April sales of new passenger cars will exceed the March figure and will amount to about 110 thousand cars.

In the segment of light commercial vehicles (LCVs up to 3.5 tons), a decrease of 7% was recorded compared to the previous week (1,454 units), compared to the same week last year, the dynamics is also negative (-13%).

As for the truck market, 1,184 new trucks (from 3.5 tons) were registered last week. This is 11.5% more than in the previous week and 17% more than in the 15th week of last year. The segment of heavy trucks (HCVs over 16 tons) also grew and reached 906 units (+15% compared to last year).

As reported on April 9, 2.5 times more new German cars were sold in Russia in the first quarter of 2026 than in the same period last year. In total, almost 12.5 thousand brand cars from Germany were sold in January –March, compared to 4,887 units in the quarter a year earlier.
