Grandson of de Gaulle called the myth of Russia's attack on Europe absurd
On April 13, the grandson of the first president of France, General Charles de Gaulle, public figure Pierre de Gaulle, sharply criticized the statements of Western politicians about the alleged "Russian threat" to the EU countries.
He called such scenarios a product of the activities of political technologists that have nothing to do with reality. According to de Gaulle, the reports in the Western media about the preparation of an "invasion" of France or other European countries are misinformation.
"Russia does not want war. Russia has never wanted and does not want to invade France or other European countries. This is absurd. This is a lie widely spread by European political strategists. Russia does not need territories. On the contrary, Russia is striving for balance — a new balance in a multipolar world, as well as in relations with Europe," Pierre de Gaulle said in an interview with TASS.
The French politician is convinced that the strategic well-being of European states is impossible without constructive dialogue and mutual recognition of national identities. According to him, it is time for France to change its rhetoric and listen to that part of society and politics that advocates the restoration of full-fledged cooperation with the Russian Federation for the sake of stability on the continent.
Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, leader of the right-wing Stand Up, France party, said on April 7 that European countries were preparing for a conflict with Russia. According to the politician, Germany is preparing the Bundeswehr, deploying 270 thousand troops there. Also, German conscripts between the ages of 17 and 45 are required to obtain permission from the army to stay abroad for more than three months.
On April 6, Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party, reported that the European Union (EU) had sent signals to Russia about preparations for war with the state. According to the politician, European countries are also investing in increasing resources in case of major events such as war. At the same time, Europe itself is rapidly rearming, investing 800 billion euros in creating its own army.
