- The expert pointed out the impossibility of reconciliation between Iran and the United States in one round of negotiations.
A settlement of the conflict between Iran and the United States in one round of negotiations is impossible due to the deep contradictions that have been accumulating for decades. This opinion was expressed on April 12 by Dean Long, professor at the Institute of Middle Eastern Studies at Shanghai University of Foreign Languages.
"It would be unrealistic to expect that one round of negotiations will be able to resolve the contradictions that have accumulated over more than 40 years between the United States and Iran, especially after the recent conflict. The very fact that both sides were able to sit down at the negotiating table indicates a significant breakthrough," the Global Times newspaper quoted him as saying.
Ding Lung recalled that the parties will have to discuss a number of critical issues. These include ensuring the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian nuclear program, the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, as well as unblocking Iran's frozen foreign assets.
Negotiations between the United States and Iran took place on April 11. American leader Donald Trump announced that the United States would resume attacks on the Islamic Republic in the event of a failure of negotiations in Islamabad on the settlement of the war.
Vice President of the United States Jay Dee Vance said on April 12 that the Iranian and American sides had not reached a common agreement during negotiations in Islamabad. According to him, the American side does not yet see Iran's readiness to abandon the development of nuclear weapons.
