The expert talked about the most profitable way to take a vacation in May.

A vacation in May 2026, which is considered one of the most unfavorable months for a vacation from a financial point of view, is better to take from the 4th to the 8th in order to get 11 days off in a row. This was announced on April 13 by Tatyana Golubeva, senior lecturer at the Department of Business, Labor and Corporate Law at the Presidential Academy.

"In 2026, the official weekends fall on May 1-3 and May 9-11. The most advantageous option in terms of rest time is to take a weekday vacation between these periods, that is, from May 4 to May 8. In this case, you can get a continuous rest for almost 11 days — from May 1 to May 11," she told Golubeva in an interview with TASS.

The expert noted that employees can use an alternative strategy. For example, take time off or arrange a flexible schedule if the employer allows such conditions.

According to Golubeva, May is considered one of the most expensive months for vacations. Due to the large number of holidays, the cost of one working day during this period is higher.

"Vacation pay is calculated based on average earnings (including calendar days), and salary is calculated based on working days. In months with a large number of holidays, there are fewer working days, so the "cost" of one working day is higher, and by going on vacation, a person loses more potential income compared to, for example, August or October," the expert added.
