Swelling in the hands and feet can be caused by salt, so if a problem arises, it is necessary to monitor the diet and daily intake of this food product. This was announced on April 12 by Yuri Brabechan, a nutritionist coach at Lapino Fitness Country Club.

"If we talk about nutrition, then there is one main lever here, and it is banal to the point of boredom: salt. More precisely, sodium, which hides literally everywhere, from cheese and sausage to ready—made soups and sauces," the expert said in an interview with the newspaper.Ru».

He added that the maximum amount of salt intake per day is six grams, which is about one teaspoon. The daily norm of sodium is about 2.3 thousand mg. If edema causes more discomfort, then its amount is reduced to 2 thousand mg.

Brabechan clarified that preference should be given to foods with up to 140 mg of sodium per serving. He recommended including fresh or frozen vegetables without sauces, fruits, poultry, fish and seafood without marinades, as well as cereals and a small amount of unleavened nuts in the diet. To reduce the amount of hidden salt and, consequently, edema, the expert suggested making a standard meal of protein, vegetables and a simple side dish.

"Cucumbers, zucchini, leafy greens, bell peppers, and asparagus are especially useful among vegetables. Watermelon, citrus fruits, berries, pineapple, grapes work well from fruits and berries. It is better to put a normal portion in each main meal. 150-200 g of chicken, turkey or fish, <...> eggs, or 150-200 grams of cottage cheese without salty additives," said the coach.

Brabechan stressed that sausage, sausages, bacon, cheese, snacks, semi-finished products and pickles should be avoided, but do not forget to maintain an even drinking regime. He also stressed that fluid restrictions are contraindicated for people with heart failure or kidney problems.

"And another common mistake is to replace regular salt with "healthy" salt with potassium or start eating mountains of bananas and avocados. If the kidneys are working normally, regular vegetables and fruits in the diet are good, but if you have chronic kidney disease or problems with potassium levels, you can't do this, because a potassium imbalance can be dangerous," Brabechan said.

Ekaterina Kashukh, a gastroenterologist and expert at the Hemotest laboratory, said on April 12 that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have no proven harm to human health. She also added that from the point of view of evidence-based medicine, convincing data on the harm of such products has not yet been received. At the same time, the specialist pointed out that it was also premature to speak unequivocally about complete safety.
