- The Russian Embassy announced the absence of Russians on the vessel detained by Sweden.
There are no Russian citizens among the crew of the vessel that was detained by the Swedish Coast Guard in the Baltic Sea. This was announced on April 12 at the Russian Embassy in Stockholm.
"In response to our request, the Swedish Coast Guard has informed us that there are no Russian citizens on board," RIA Novosti quoted the message as saying.
On the same day, SVT reported that the Swedish Coast Guard had conducted an inspection of the cargo ship Hui Yuan, which was sailing under the flag of Panama from Russia to Spanish Las Palmas. It was noted that the crew of the bulk carrier is accused of violating environmental laws due to the flushing of coal dust into the open sea.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on April 9 that the Russian side would take measures to protect interests in the event of the seizure of domestic tankers in the waters. According to him, cases of piracy in international waters have been recorded in recent months.
