Rosstandart has approved a new GOST for monitoring driver drowsiness using AI
Rosstandart has approved a new GOST for monitoring the functional state of drivers using artificial intelligence (AI) systems. They will evaluate indicators such as drowsiness and fatigue of drivers, and will be able to prevent dangerous situations on the road, RIA Novosti agency reviewed the document on April 12.
The new GOST, which will enter into force on June 15, 2026, establishes requirements for monitoring systems for drivers at the stages of their commissioning, operation and repair. It is important that such systems use AI, including software components, to analyze the physiological and behavioral factors of the driver.
Monitoring systems will work using computer vision, biometric sensors, and AI to analyze driver behavior. Predicting the driver's condition will include assessing factors such as fatigue, decreased attention, stress, and falling asleep. The system will analyze behavioral features such as the frequency and duration of yawning, head tilts, and facial expressions — tense or relaxed.
Prior to that, on April 9, it became known that Rosstandart had adopted a new GOST that sets requirements for mopeds and motorcycles with electric drive. It was specified that in order to switch the vehicle from the off state to the driving mode, the driver must perform at least two actions. There is also a mandatory indication of the driving mode on the dashboard.
