Lercek asked the court to show mercy to her ex-husband Chekalin
Blogger Lerchek (Valeria Chekalina) asked the court to show mercy to her ex-husband Artem Chekalin, who is accused of withdrawing more than 250 million rubles to the UAE using forged documents. This is evidenced by her appeal, which was reviewed by Izvestia on April 12.
The state prosecution on Friday, during the arguments of the parties in the Moscow court, requested 7.6 years in prison for Chekalin.
"I really ask you, as not only a participant in the process, but also as a woman, as a mother, to show mercy to my ex-husband, or rather to the father of my children (Father with a capital letter)," Chekalina writes.
The blogger thanked the court for its humanity, compassion and the opportunity for her to focus on her treatment and time with her family. Chekalina also noted in the appeal that all taxes have been paid.
The court is expected to announce Chekalin's verdict on Monday.
On March 16, the court released Chekalina from house arrest after confirming her cancer. A correspondent for Izvestia reported from the courtroom that the blogger's children live with her ex-husband, Artyom.
The hospital doctors assessed Lercek's condition as moderate, her lawyer said. On March 11, Chekalina began treatment at the State Cancer Center. She was later taken to a medical facility to begin a course of chemotherapy. The lover and father of her fourth child, Luis Squicciarini, announced on March 8 that she had cancer cells.
