A new Smolenskaya polar station will be built in Antarctica. This was announced on April 11 by traveler Fyodor Konyukhov.

"We are opening a polar station on Smolensk Island to explore Antarctica. This will be the first Russian polar station. We have six polar stations, but they were founded by our parents in the Soviet Union," he said during the open lecture "Creating the Future: Geography" at the Rossiya National Center.

Konyukhov noted that Antarctica unites scientists from all over the world. He expressed the hope that the new station would attract young people, to whom he would be able to show the sites of dinosaur bones. According to him, it is also necessary to send anthropologists, zoologists and other specialists there.

The traveler Fyodor Konyukhov arrived in Moscow, having completed an expedition in Antarctica. He was greeted on March 27 at Domodedovo Airport with a poster "Fyodor Konyukhov's Russian Antarctica 2025-2026. Antarctica is ours!" Konyukhov was on the island of Smolensk, where he conducted scientific research. In Antarctica, he painted paintings and also interacted with marine animals.
