- The heads of a construction company were arrested in Dagestan for stealing 550 million rubles.
The heads of a construction company suspected of embezzling more than 550 million rubles from citizens have been arrested in Dagestan. This was announced on March 11 by the joint press service of the courts of general jurisdiction of the Republic.
"Suspects <...> with intent to steal funds from an unspecified group of people, they sold apartments in allegedly under construction apartment buildings in the city of Makhachkala," the Telegram channel said.
According to investigators, some of the construction sites did not exist at all, and the company did not receive permits for real buildings. Thus, citizens' money was stolen for a total amount of over 552 million rubles. The defendants are suspected of committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud on an especially large scale").
On April 6, the Supreme Court of Russia sent materials to the Prosecutor General's Office for an anti-corruption audit of judges of the Krasnodar Territory, including former judge of the Krasnodar Regional Court Elena Khakhaleva. It was noted that the identified assets that do not correspond to the declared income became the basis for its implementation.
On May 17, 2022, a criminal case was opened against Khakhaleva under articles on fraud and forgery. The judge was suspected of embezzling 1 million rubles. On June 10, she was arrested in absentia and put on the international wanted list, and a preventive measure was chosen for her in the form of two months of arrest from the moment of her actual detention.
