Smart feeders can make it easier for a pet to feed, but incorrect dosages can worsen the animal's condition. This was announced on April 11 by Yulia Nemtseva, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Senior lecturer at the Department of Veterinary Medicine at ROSBIOTECH University.

She noted that smart feeders can maintain stable and timely nutrition, which is especially useful in cases where there are more than one pet, or when the owner is busy.

"Portion control in such devices helps to avoid overeating and weight problems, and the ability to remotely control via smartphone makes feeding more convenient and predictable. In advanced models with tags or scanners, exactly the animals they are intended for receive food, which reduces the risk of conflict between pets," the veterinarian told Gazeta.Ru».

Nevertheless, the expert stressed that usually the cost of such feeders is higher than usual, and they can also fail. She added that such models cannot notice changes in cats' appetite, which may indicate illness. Nemtseva clarified that smart feeders are designed exclusively for dry food, as wet food requires temperature and hygiene control.

"We must not forget about the risks: if we completely shift feeding to technology, we can weaken emotional contact with the pet," the veterinarian shared.

According to Nemtseva, when buying such a device, it is necessary to take into account the rhythm of the owner's life and the needs of the pet.
