The proposal to provide pregnant women with maternity leave from the first trimester of pregnancy may lead to discrimination in the labor market, instead, women should be given an additional day off with pay. This was announced on April 11 by the chairman of the commission of the Public Chamber Sergey Rybalchenko.

"Some employers will refuse to employ young women due to concerns that they will need long maternity leave from the first trimester," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

As an alternative, Rybalchenko proposed introducing an additional paid day off per week for medical examinations and other needs.
