The US Navy has decided to decommission the nuclear submarine USS Boise, which took about $800 million to repair. This was announced on April 10 by US Secretary of the Navy John Phelan.

"We screwed up <...> It doesn't look good. It is what it is. It's time to move on, try to move forward and develop in the future," Phelan commented on the decision to decommission the submarine, as quoted by Semafor.

In addition, he noted that this decision was made as part of a large-scale reorganization of the Golden Fleet at the initiative of US President Donald Trump. It is clarified that the decommissioning of the Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Boise has been postponed for years, and in 2017 she lost her diving clearance due to delayed repairs.

According to the publication, in the amount of $800 million, only 22% of the planned major repairs were completed.

On April 3, Trump proposed in the draft budget for 2027 to reduce the non-military component of the United States defense budget by 10%, or $73 billion. In addition, the draft proposes to increase the total defense budget to $1.5 trillion, which is an increase in spending on the Pentagon by more than 40% of the current value.
