Russia was the first in everything related to space, except landing a man on the moon. This was announced on April 10 by Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center.

"I sat down and wrote eight pages where we were the first. <...> The first dog that returned to Earth, the first satellite, the first man in space. <...> The first pennant, then the first soft landing. The first lunar soil survey. <...> Except for the man on the moon, we were the first almost everywhere," he said in an interview with the Vesti news service.

He noted that there is no list of what Russia was the first in space. Kovalchuk also mentioned that it was the Russian Federation that sent the world's first woman into space, as well as organized a group flight and made the first docking.

He added that Russian cosmonauts were the first to fly around the moon and take a picture of its backside, and the first man in outer space was twice Hero of the Soviet Union Alexei Leonov.

Dmitry Bakanov, CEO of Roscosmos, announced on April 9 that Russia plans to scan the Moon in 2028, and the development of instruments for studying the Earth's satellite began in 2026. According to him, cooperation with the Rosatom state Corporation is conducted in two main areas: the creation of a lunar power plant based on nuclear equipment, as well as the development of a tugboat engine that will be able to deliver large volumes of cargo into deep space.
