The dog handler explained the dogs' love of lying on the owner's belongings

Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, explained why the dog lies on the owner's belongings when he is not there.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Friday, April 10, the specialist emphasized that human things are a real antidepressant, a sedative for dogs.

The expert explained that the dogs' habit of carrying away their owner's belongings is not harmfulness or revenge, but natural behavior. According to him, pets are calmed by the smell of humans, as their sense of smell is much stronger, and it is clothes that best preserve this fragrance.

He noted that lying on things is a mild form of separation anxiety and is considered the norm if the animal does not spoil them. If this gets in the way, you can leave the dog an old thing with the smell of the owner or make the bed more comfortable — sometimes the pet is just looking for a comfortable and warm place.

The dog handler stressed that scolding a dog for such behavior is not worth it: it will not understand the reason for the punishment, and stress will only increase. He recommended providing the pet with sufficient physical and mental activity, as well as leaving toys or turning on quiet music to make it easier to bear the separation.

Golubev on April 8, in an interview with RT, noted that all pets acquired in marriage are considered joint property of the spouses. The main thing that should be determined for the best future of the dog in the event of a divorce is who has the most resources, both monetary and temporary.
