- Iran reported postponement of trip to talks with the United States due to strikes on Lebanon
The Iranian authorities postponed a trip to the Pakistani capital several times to negotiate with the United States in connection with the Israeli attacks on Lebanon, the Iranian Press TV channel reported on April 10, citing a source.
"The trip of the Iranian delegation to Islamabad has been postponed several times for this reason. Iran warned that the continuation of [Israeli] attacks on Lebanon could disrupt the negotiations," the media said.
According to the source, pressure from Tehran forced Israel to stop attacks on the Lebanese capital Beirut, but if the attacks resume, Iran's negotiations on ending the conflict with the United States will be canceled altogether.
"The unity of the resistance front was an indispensable condition for Iran," the TV channel points out.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on April 9 that Israel would limit attacks on Lebanon at the request of the United States in order not to disrupt negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Randa Slim, director of the Middle East program at the Stimson Center think tank, said that reducing Israeli strikes on Lebanon is actually a prerequisite for starting negotiations.
On April 10, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance noted that the US delegation was going to Pakistan for talks on Iran with clear instructions from US President Donald Trump. He added that the US negotiating team is "not very susceptible" to manipulation and expects cooperation from the Iranian side.
