HR expert explained the business' rejection of ideal candidates
Employers are increasingly abandoning the so-called "golden resumes" in favor of candidates with non-standard experience. Anna Alikova, an independent HR expert, told Izvestia on April 10 what this trend is related to and what risks it carries.
The "golden" candidates are expensive, moody, and leave quickly if they are bored. Small businesses don't have the money to persuade them and don't have time to wait," the specialist noted.
At the same time, "imperfect" candidates, on the contrary, demonstrate higher engagement. As the expert explained, people with breaks in their seniority or without specialized experience are more likely to appreciate the opportunity and are ready to work for results. They are not focused on rapid income growth, but they are interested in stability and development.
In addition, as Alikova noted, professionals who have changed their profession can bring new approaches and innovative thinking. According to the expert, the lack of specialized education is often compensated by practical skills and the ability to learn independently. Alikova singled out the older employees separately. According to her, 45+ professionals are more likely to demonstrate maturity, resilience, and the ability to work without constant supervision.
At the same time, career breaks may indicate burnout or difficulties with adaptation, a change of profession may indicate a temporary interest in a new field, and a lack of specialized education may indicate gaps in basic knowledge. At the same time, when evaluating candidates, they increasingly pay attention not to the diploma, but to personal qualities. Among the key criteria, the expert named motivation, willingness to learn and adequacy in communication.
