The European Union (EU) turned out to be the main loser during the conflict in Iran, and not so much because of the economic crises, but because of the inability to take independent, sovereign actions. The newspaper The European Conservative (TEC) wrote about this on April 10.

"Brussels is increasingly living off the ever-increasing volume of debt issuance in order to continue paying for the conflict in Ukraine... The real question is no longer whether Europe can withstand another crisis. The question is whether the Europeans are still willing to pay for it," the article says.

The authors of the publication add that many large EU countries are experiencing problems: Germany has not yet restored its industrial base, France combines budget deficits, debt and permanent political crisis, and Italy depends on increasingly unstable financial markets.

Economist Alexey Zubets reported on March 31 that if the conflict between the United States and Iran in the Middle East continues for several more months, Europe may face a shortage of gas for heating homes next winter. He noted that this would lead to cold weather in homes and negative consequences for the region's economy.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on March 20 that by rejecting Russian gas, the EU "continues to shoot its voters in the foot." Peskov noted that if alternative markets, which are now in dire need of petroleum products, are "more attractive," Russia will focus on them first.
