Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on Thursday, April 9, opened the second Moscow tram diameter T2 — from Chertanovskaya metro station to Novogireevo MCD-4.

According to him, after the launch of the first diameter, passenger traffic on trams doubled, and the authorities expect to increase it on T2 from the current 50,000 to 90,000 per day. He noted that the new route has become the longest in the world, it is served by modern trams Vityaz-Moscow and Lvenok-Moscow, the Moscow City News agency notes.

Sobyanin added that the tram network is actively developing: passenger traffic has already grown from 600,000 to almost 900,000 people per day. He also stressed that in the next 5-7 years it is planned to develop unmanned public transport in the capital, including trams and metro trains, writes Moscow 24.

On April 4, Moscow hosted a tram parade dedicated to the 127th anniversary of electric transport. A column of 16 historical wagons of different generations proceeded from Kursky railway Station to Sergiy Radonezhsky Street, where a large-scale exhibition of retrotransport opened.
