The expert appreciated the removal of Belarusian state-owned channels on YouTube
The removal of Belarusian channels on YouTube has become a kind of recognition of journalistic work. This was stated by Belarusian political analyst Alexei Dzermant in an interview with Izvestia.
"These media gained sufficient weight in the information space, they all had millions of subscribers. They influenced not only our internal agenda, but also the entire Russian-speaking space. This is the main reason for the blockage. I also note the duplicitous position of the Americans — they negotiate with one hand and take such discriminatory measures with the other," he said.
At the same time, YouTube is unlikely to be blocked in the country in response, the reaction of the authorities will be restrained, the source suggested.
"A complete lockdown will be painful for people, plus other Belarusian media outlets continue to work on this site. I believe that we will see targeted measures of influence, for example, the prohibition of certain extremist channels on the territory of our country. The general trend is negative, but I don't expect drastic decisions yet," the expert concluded.
On April 3, the YouTube video hosting administration deleted the accounts of the BelTA news agency and ONT and STV TV channels. On April 8, the second page of STV disappeared from the site. The Ministry of Information of the Republic negatively assessed this unfriendly and groundless step. The department stated that they reserve the right to take the necessary response measures.
