The second Moscow tram diameter T2 has been opened from Chertanovskaya metro station to Novogireevo MCD-4 station. Passengers can make transfers to four railway stations and 31 metro stations, the MCC, the MCD and the railway, said the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, in his channel in the MAX.

T2 has become the longest urban diametrical tram route in the world, its length is 33 km, the Mayor of Moscow emphasized. The new diameter, with 79 stops, connected 13 districts of the capital. Thanks to this, according to Sobyanin's estimates, transport services have improved for more than 2 million residents of Moscow. "There is no doubt that T2 will also be in demand by residents," the head of the capital wrote on his channel.

Modern trams with autonomous running operate on the route: single-section "Lion Cub-Moscow" and upgraded three-section "Vityaz-Moscow" wagons, which were equipped with an autonomous running system for the first time. They drive 2 km along Akademika Sakharova Avenue without connecting to a contact network — energy storage occurs in other areas.

The Mayor of the capital recalled the success of the first diameter. "When we opened the first diameter, it was last year, there was a lot of skepticism. I must say that the number of passengers has doubled, and not just the percentage there, but it has doubled along the entire tram route," Moscow 24 quotes the mayor as saying.

In 2025, three transport projects related to trams were implemented in Moscow. The first tram diameter was launched in the capital, a fully unmanned tram was put on the rails, and cars with full autonomous movement appeared on lines without a contact network.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
