Burials of the historical necropolis in Sevastopol will be restored

In Sevastopol, the restoration of the graves of the historical necropolis at the Fraternal Cemetery of the defenders of the city will be carried out. The first 35 cultural heritage sites are planned to be put in order this year.

The work will be carried out at the expense of targeted financing, explains IA SevastopolMedia. Contracts for the development of project documentation have already been signed, research and survey work has been carried out. The Scientific and Methodological Council at Sevnasledie reviewed 10 draft projects. The professional community approved them.

The agency notes that the first conclusions of the state historical and cultural expertise have already begun to arrive. Thus, it became possible to move from planning to specific restoration activities.

The monuments, whose condition is assessed as the most critical and the risk of destruction is high, will be the first to be put in order. The approach to each burial will be strictly individual. Experts will take into account the technical condition, archival materials, the percentage of loss of the original appearance and the results of scientific research.

In parallel with the restoration work, specialists will begin to develop a unified concept for the future restoration of the entire cemetery. This is necessary to determine the long-term stages of work on putting in order more than 600 cultural heritage sites that are associated with the First Defense of Sevastopol.

Earlier it was reported about the beginning of preparations for the restoration of two iconic Orthodox churches in Sevastopol. We are talking about Peter and Paul and Pokrovsky Cathedrals. Specialists are conducting a survey of buildings. They take accurate measurements, photofixation and laser scanning. This will make it possible to create digital models and identify hidden damage, accurately assess the condition of structures after decades of operation and the interaction of external factors.
