Matvienko congratulated the Russians on the Day of the capture of Konigsberg

Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko addressed Kaliningrad residents and all Russians with congratulations on the occasion of Konigsberg Day. As the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation recalled on April 9, the memorable date of the heroic assault and capture of the fortress city was approved in 2025 by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"First of all, I would like to congratulate the residents of Kaliningrad and all Russians on such a memorable date. By the decision of our president, April 9 is included in the all-Russian calendar of military glory and memorable dates by right. <...> We will always pay tribute to our heroes," she said.

She recalled that on April 9, Soviet soldiers and officers took Konigsberg, which was considered an impregnable fortress, after storming, defeating a powerful group in East Prussia.
