- In Rosatom They indicated their readiness to help Iran solve the problem of uranium export
Rosatom is ready to help solve the problem of exporting highly enriched uranium from Iran, and Moscow's proposals remain on the table. Alexey Likhachev, CEO of the state corporation, announced this on April 9 on the sidelines of the Russian Space Forum.
"Our proposal remains on the table, it has been repeatedly expressed by the President of the Russian Federation [Vladimir Putin]. "There is no problem for us with the consent of the Iranian side to take uranium, reduce its enrichment, and pay off our Iranian friends with natural uranium, money, or other supplies of interest to them," Interfax quoted Likhachev as saying.
He also noted that he does not exclude the possibility of both bilateral and trilateral cooperation with any other interested party. The head of Rosatom added that the realization of this opportunity "would be a landmark part of this big deal."
The Axios portal reported on March 8 that the United States and Israel discussed sending armed forces to Iran to seize highly enriched uranium. The publication writes that the administration of US President Donald Trump discussed two possible options for neutralizing Iranian uranium reserves: either completely remove the raw materials from the country, or involve experts to "dilute" them on the spot.
Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said on March 3 that demands to ban Iran from enriching uranium were illegal, since all countries could develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
