Lavrov announced the continuation of contacts on the Ukrainian settlement
Contacts on the Ukrainian issue continue, while the Russian side has not seen prospects for resuming the dialogue for a long time amid the preoccupation of American mediators with other issues. This was announced on April 9 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"We have not seen any special prospects for resuming the dialogue for a long time. The mediators, which our American colleagues volunteered to be, are now busy with other things, and since they have one group of mediators for all areas of foreign policy, there has been a certain pause," Lavrov told reporters during the presentation of the International Youth Festival 2026, as quoted by TASS.
The foreign Minister added that negotiations on Ukraine did not stop, but were conducted in a non-public sphere. According to Lavrov, these contacts were more confidential and informal.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky earlier in the day admitted that the United States could become a possible meeting place with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. According to Zelensky, negotiations will continue with the participation of the American side in a trilateral format. At the same time, the head of the Kiev regime resolutely refused to negotiate in Kiev or Moscow, offering Middle Eastern and European alternatives in addition to the American platform.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on April 6 that the trilateral negotiation process between Russia, the United States and Ukraine was currently on pause, as the American side had a lot to do and it was difficult to get together in such a format. He noted that the exchange of information with the Americans continues through the channels that are available.
