The choice of shoes directly affects the formation of the foot and the musculoskeletal system of the child. Experts warn that unsuitable shoes can not only cause discomfort, but also create risks for proper development. According to Roman Bodio, an orthopedic surgeon and Ralf Ringer expert, the foot continues to actively form in childhood, so shoes should not interfere with this process.

"The main task of children's shoes is not to fix the foot rigidly, but to allow it to develop naturally. It is important that the fingers are not clenched, and the foot itself can work properly when walking," he said in an interview with Izvestia on April 10.

One of the common mistakes is choosing too tight or stiff shoes. This can restrict finger movement and disrupt load distribution.

"The front section of the shoe should be wide enough for the toes to be positioned freely. Compression in this area can eventually lead to deformations and malfunction of the foot," Bodio said.

Special attention is paid to the sole: it should be flexible and allow the foot to move naturally. Too rigid a sole restricts the work of the foot muscles. In childhood, this is especially critical because the muscles and ligaments are just forming. The balance of fixation and freedom is also important. Shoes should stay well on the foot, but not create excessive pressure.

"Shoes should fix the heel, but not restrict the movement of the foot. This allows us to maintain stability and at the same time does not interfere with natural biomechanics," the expert explained.

It is recommended to pay attention to the materials as well. They should provide normal air exchange and comfort during prolonged wear.

"For children, it is especially important that shoes "breathe". This reduces the risk of overheating, increased sweating and related problems," the orthopedic surgeon added.

Properly selected shoes help to form a healthy foot, reduce the risk of fatigue and create the basis for the normal development of the child's musculoskeletal system in the future, concluded Bodio.

In February, Medical Xpress magazine warned about the risks of high-heeled shoes for joints. Scientists have learned that supportive shoes have different effects on joints in osteoarthritis. The study found that stable supportive shoes reduced pain when walking by an average of 63% more effectively than soft flexible models.
