Guterres called the attacks on Lebanon a threat to the truce between the United States and Iran

The Israeli strikes on Lebanon seriously jeopardize the temporary ceasefire agreement reached between the United States and Iran. This was announced on April 9 by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

"In light of the announcement of a cease—fire between Iran and the United States, the ongoing military actions in Lebanon pose a serious threat to this truce and to efforts to achieve sustainable and comprehensive peace in the region," the organization said in a statement posted on its website.

Secretary General's spokesman Stefan Dujaric added that international law must be respected in any case and military aggression will not allow achieving the desired settlement. He called on all the countries involved in the conflict to refer to UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and return to the path of diplomacy.

Hezbollah has threatened to retaliate if fighting continues amid a truce with Iran.

On April 8, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supported the introduction of a two-week ceasefire with Iran, but clarified that it did not apply to Lebanon.

On April 8, Israel launched a new attack on Lebanon, despite the truce agreement. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, hundreds of people were killed and injured after the attack. Iran's state broadcaster IRIB also reported on the "brutal Zionist bombing of Beirut."
