Mistakes in complex industries are often made even by experienced professionals, and their causes are often not obvious. Svetlana Egzhanova, an international expert in the field of railway transport and a leading designer, told Izvestia about this on April 13.

According to her, as experience increases, many actions begin to be performed automatically, which reduces attention to detail. Even experienced workers do not have complete protection from mistakes. Some of the actions go to automatism, and at some point you may not notice the deviation.

"A similar situation is observed outside the professional environment. For example, drivers with long experience often operate on autopilot, which increases the risk of near misses. An additional factor is excessive confidence, which can cause specialists to ignore regulations," the expert explained.

Egzhanova also pointed out the impact of high workload and stress. In conditions of time constraints, attention narrows, and the speed of decision-making decreases. When there is constant stress, fatigue and responsibility, it becomes more difficult to react quickly and correctly.

Among other reasons, the expert cited cognitive overload and routine tasks. Constant repetition of actions reduces vigilance, and the need to monitor multiple parameters simultaneously increases the risk of errors.

In addition, the complexity of modern systems leads to failures at the junction of processes. In non-standard situations, according to the expert, even an experienced employee can get lost, as professional skills are more often formed based on typical scenarios.

To reduce the risks, Egzhanova recommended using simulators and modeling difficult conditions. Now the key role is for systematic training. Because even the most experienced person remains human.

Veronika Akhmetova, a psychologist and member of the Association for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, told Izvestia on March 11 that working with artificial intelligence (AI) can cause depression and burnout among employees if interaction with the system is not built correctly. According to her, frequent interaction with AI can lead to depression and emotional burnout for several reasons. First of all, this is due to the loss of the meaning of work.
